Services

Two areas, the same care

A practice focused on two subjects, to know every step, document and requirement in depth.

Brazilian naturalization

For foreign nationals living in Brazil who wish to become Brazilian citizens. Analysis of the applicable type (ordinary, extraordinary and others), the requirements and documents, and follow-up of the application until the decision.

How it works

Recognition of foreign judgments

So that a divorce, a custody or child support order, a money judgment or another judgment issued abroad takes effect in Brazil, through the civil registry office or before the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) in Brasília.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you assist clients outside Brasília?

Yes. Consultations are held online, by video call, for clients anywhere in Brazil or abroad. Since the proceedings are electronic, documents are sent digitally and you can follow everything remotely.

In which language is the consultation held?

In English or Portuguese. You choose the language when booking.

Does a divorce granted abroad always need the STJ?

No. A simple uncontested divorce, which only ends the marriage, with no provisions on minor children, custody, support or property, can be registered directly at the civil registry office, and the law does not require a lawyer for this mere registration. Other cases require recognition by the Superior Court of Justice, which can only be requested by a lawyer. Even at the registry office, it is worth checking beforehand whether the judgment really is “simple” and whether the apostille and translation are correct: a mistake sends the request back and delays a new marriage or a property sale.

Do I need a lawyer to apply for naturalization?

The application may be filed by the applicant, but having a lawyer from the start brings concrete advantages: the right type and residence period are defined before filing, the documents are checked to avoid requests and denials, and the administrative record is prepared with a possible Federal Court action in mind, should the application be denied.
